Don't expect much to change over the next several months with regards to the fishing report. In fact, you really shouldn't call it a report at all due to the lack of anglers actually fishing and reporting this time of the year. But as I was once told, "It's better to make the reports, than read about the reports." So be my guest and hit the river, but please be careful and remember that it's always a good idea to have a fishing partner especially this time of the year.

Upper Henry’s Fork – Box Canyon
This section is now open year-round. Flows are back down to their historical winter levels and are currently around 280 CFS. This is completely opposite from last year when the reservoir was so full that they were able to keep flows well above normal. Obviously this will not be the case this winter with the previous low snowpack and dry summer we experienced.
With that being said, floating in a hard-sided boat will not be an option for those who have access to a snowmobile and adventurous spirits. And there really is not enough snow on the ground to be needing snowshoes yet, but remember that we rent snowshoes for anyone looking for a little adventure. The Box Canyon is absolutely stunning during the winter and chances are that you’ll have complete solitude while on the river. Flies to use in the Box Canyon will remain the same over the course of next several months including small tungsten beaded mayfly nymphs, zebra midges, small rubberlegs, and eggs.
Upper Henry’s Fork – Last Chance & Harriman Ranch to Riverside Campground
Harriman State Park is closed to fishing until June 15, 2013.
Middle Henry’s Fork – Riverside Campground to the Ashton Dam
The section of river from Warm River to Ashton is open year-round and mostly accessible. It looks like the boat ramps are still accessible, but that will soon change with the next storm that brings any significant snowfall. If wanting to float, give us a call first and we can check the ramps. Once again, the flies to use will remain the same over the course of next several months including small tungsten beaded mayfly nymphs, zebra midges, small rubberlegs, and eggs.
Lower Henry’s Fork – Ashton Dam to St. Anthony
The river is closed to fishing from the Ashton Dam down to the Vernon Bridge. This section will of course re-open to fishing on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Flies to use include Baetis small tungsten beaded mayfly nymphs, zebra midges, small rubberlegs, and eggs.
Lower Henry’s Fork – St. Anthony to Confluence
Flies to use include Baetis small tungsten beaded mayfly nymphs, zebra midges, small rubberlegs, and eggs.
Henry’s Fork Tributaries
Warm River and Fall River and open year-round with catch and release policies now in effect through the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.
Madison River
Flies to use include small tungsten beaded mayfly nymphs, zebra midges, small rubberlegs, and eggs.
Area Lakes
All lakes are now icing over. The season on Henry’s Lake has been extended through January 1st. If ice fishing is what you’re into, then have fun and don’t fall through the ice.
South Fork of the Snake
Flows are around 900 CFS! Once again this is completely opposite from last year. This level is so low that floating is almost not an option as you would find yourself not fishing and mostly rowing (downriver) just to make it in time before the sun goes down. However, this does make the river extremely friendly for walk-and-wade access. Flies to use include Baetis small tungsten beaded mayfly nymphs, zebra midges, small rubberlegs, and eggs.
Yellowstone National Park
Closed to fishing. Will open on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
