Bob Lamm

Bob is from Sedalia, Missouri. He first fished the area in 1972 and started working in Jim Danskin's fly shop in 1974 and ran his first guide trip for Bob Jacklin in September of that same year. Bob came to work for Henry's Fork Anglers in 1978. A winner of Fly Rod and Reel's "Guide of the Year" award, Bob sets the standard in the fly fishing industry. His knowledge of the area lakes and rivers is unsurpassed. He is a patient, effective teacher and a true professional. Booking a trip with Bob can be next to impossible. He has a great number of return clients and if you'd like to book a trip with him, you'd better do it as early as possible. In the off season Bob guides bird hunters, trains retrievers, and chases wild turkeys.

Mark "Smitty" Smith

Smitty first fished the Henry's Fork with Will Godfrey in 1972 when he was 13 years old. That summer he caught his first fish on a fly on the Yellowstone River. He returned to Island Park to work in Godfrey's shop during the summers of 1973 through 1975. He started guiding for Will in 1986 and eventually he came to work at Henry's Fork Anglers in 1990. Smitty is a superb guide in Yellowstone Park which a result from many years of exploring its boundaries. A patient teacher, Smitty is also an accomplished gyotaku artist. His artwork can be seen in our shop and at the Henry's Fork Lodge. In the off season, Smitty lives in Bishop, California with his wife Glenna while working on his artwork.  They have two sons, Tyler and Mason.

 
 
Curt Barker

Curt is from Ogden, Utah and has been with Henry's Fork Anglers since 1979. His father bought a cabin on Island Park Reservoir in 1960 and Curt has been fishing the area since then. As a result, he knows the Island Park area and the entire Yellowstone region very well. Whether he is searching for trophy trout on Henry's Lake or wading little known sections of the lower river, Curt has an uncanny ability to find fish. Curt spends the winter recovering from a summer of guiding by hunting pheasants and other birds with his beloved dogs and works for the IRS.

 
 
Dom Traverso

Dom first fished the Henry's Fork area in 1965. Dom guided at Tom Webb's Hackle and Tackle until Tom's shop closed. He started guiding for Henry's Fork Anglers in the early 1990's. His exceptional patience, teaching skills, and versatility make him one of the most highly requested guides on our staff. Dom is also an avid fly tier who takes pleasure in finding different and unique ways to fool rising trout. When he's not guiding, he can usually be found fishing somewhere within the boundaries of Harriman State Park. Dom and his wife, Francine live in McArthur, California. A recent retiree, Dom taught junior high history and physical education for 28 years. He also coached varsity baseball at Dixon High School. Dom and Francine have a daughter, Tori.

 
 
Tom Grimes

"Tall" Tom, as he’s admirably known, is originally from Missouri and has been a member of our staff since 1983. He first fished the Henry's Fork area in 1968. Over the years, he has acquired a great deal of knowledge about the area. He is known as a patient guide who does an excellent job teaching beginner & advanced anglers alike. His steady temper and dry sense of humor make him a great companion for a day of fishing. In the off season, Tom guides elk hunters and works at a restaurant near his home in Sheridan, Montana. Tom has also done quite a bit of big game hunting in the Yukon and is active in the Federation for North American Wild Sheep.

John Hudgens

John is originally from south Texas where he grew up fishing for tailing red fish on the flats. He learned to fish for trout while completing high school in Colorado. When John was only 16, Bob Jacklin hired him to work in his fly shop in West Yellowstone, MT. After five summers spent working in the shop and guiding for Bob, John made the move to Henry's Fork Anglers in May of 2002. He is already a very versatile and accomplished guide, and one of our most requested. He has proven to be a knowledgeable and a dedicated guide and we look forward to having him on the staff for many years to come. John has a degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana. During the winter months John works for Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures as their program director for South America. He is also an avid hunter, dog trainer, and fly tier.

 
 
Dan Kappes

Dan Kappes grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he developed a love for all outdoor sports including fishing, hunting, skiing, climbing & biking. He has a degree in Geology from the University of Idaho and is knowledgeable about the entire Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. Dan first fished Idaho in 1992, and has been catching hatches in Last Chance with his dogs since 2001. Dan is a very patient guide and enjoys bringing beginners into the sport. He is enthusiastic about catching fish and enjoys showing anglers the famous waters that he guides. A day spent fishing with Dan is bound for lots of memorable moments. He recently started the pursuit of a law degree at Lewis & Clark Law School. Dan and his wife, Amelie, have a toddler son named Benjamin.

John “Hootie” Mauldin

Hootie was born and raised in Dalton, Georgia. He began fly fishing for trout as a young boy on the Conasauga River in the Cohutta Wilderness. He Graduated from Kennesaw State University with a degree in Psychology. He began fishing waters of the Greater Yellowstone Region as a young teenager while on summer vacations with his family. Hootie's first season as a guide with Henry's Fork Anglers was in 2008, and he is always excited to return to Idaho every summer after guiding in Georgia for Blue Ridge Fly Fishing and Unicoi Outfitters during the winter months. His patience and southern hospitality are a perfect combination for stalking elusive trout on the Henry's Fork. He is truly a year-round fly fishing guide.

Alex Kohn

Alex Kohn is originally from Piedmont, California. He grew up fishing the mountain streams and lakes in the Sierra’s. Alex received a college degree in Sociology from the University of Oregon. With his college finished up, Alex’s passion for fishing has become a lifestyle. He can be found chasing steelhead and salmon during the fall and winter months, and of course trout during the summer. Alex came on to work for Henry’s Fork Anglers in 2008. He started working in the fly shop, and has moved onto the full time guide staff in 2009. He has proven to be an effective and patient teacher, and knows where the fish live. Alex has an easy going personality that will make for an enjoyable day on the river.

 
 
Reid Young

Reid Young is originally from Strafford, Missouri where he grew up fishing the wooded streams of Missouri. He recently received a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, and is in pursuit of his Masters at Auburn University. Reid is an accomplished fly fisherman, upland game bird & waterfowl hunter. He started fishing the Henry’s Fork when he was 15 years while visiting the area during family vacations. Reid began working for Henry’s Fork Anglers in 2008 and started guiding in 2010. Reid has been an outstanding asset to our business as he has a great knowledge of the area and its fishery.

Andy Jenkins

Andy is from Redwood City, CA where he recently left a thriving business to follow a life long dream. Andy received his degree in Marine Science from University Alaska Southeast, Juneau. After college Andy moved to Billings, Montana where he fished many of the Eastern and Western Montana waters. His love of fishing then took him to a unique experience of teaching the art of fly fishing in the communities of Minnesota. Andy’s love of fishing has given him amazing experiences from Alaska to Mexico. He is an avid waterfowl and upland game hunter. His love for preservation of nature led him to serve as the Ducks Unlimited president for four years in the San Mateo Chapter. Andy’s personality, spirit, and life’s experiences will absolutely give anyone the time of their life while on the river.

Shaun Lawson

Shaun Lawson is the first son of Mike and Sheralee Lawson and is an accomplished guide having a lifetime of fishing on western waters. Shaun was born and raised in Saint Anthony, Idaho and assisted in establishing South Fork Outfitters on the South Fork of the Snake as the General Manager for eight years. The desire to fish and guide was too much as Shaun stepped down from his manager role to experience the waters of western and central Montana. Shaun is one of the most straight forward and accomplished anglers one could ever meet. His friendly demeanor is often overshadowed by his shear stature, but you couldn't find a more inspired and outgoing angler on any river. If you are looking for a fun and safe outing, get ready to be guided into every possible opportunity to catch a Henry's Fork trout.

Elden Berrett

Elden Berrett was born and raised in Eastern Idaho, and has continued to live and fish here most of his life. He got his start in fly fishing and tying flies at the age of 13. He will always remember the sense of accomplishment he felt when he first caught a fish on one of his own flies. He has been guiding the eastern Idaho area since 1990 and is one of the most recognized and revered guides in the region. He received the top guide award in the 1997 Jackson Hole One Fly event. Also a signature fly tier for Idylwilde Flies, Elden has developed many popular and effective fly patterns for the South Fork, Henry's Fork, and other fisheries. His full time work schedule for the INL allows him to spend a considerable amount of time fishing and guiding our regional waters. His part time guiding status belies his ability as a professional fly fishing guide. Elden can be booked as your guide through Henry's Fork Anglers, or at Natural Retreats, South Fork Lodge.

Joe Bare

Joe Bare is a lifetime resident of Idaho Falls and Swan Valley, Idaho. He has been fishing our local waters all of his life. He started fly tying at age twelve and today he ties a number of our specialized flies for our shop including our famous No Hackle fly. Joe is one of the few tiers who have complete mastery of this difficult pattern. Joe first worked in our fly shop in 1990. He has also worked at Jimmy’s All Seasons Angler in Idaho Falls. Joe started guiding at the age of 19 for Spence Warner who originally owned the South Fork Lodge. He continues to guide part time and operating his fly tying business called JB Creations.
