Fishing Report - April 26, 2024

Apr 26, 2024 | Andy Jenkins Caddisflies.jpg

The Mother’s Day Caddis have arrived on the Henrys Fork. The hatch just started a few days ago. Since our last fishing report the river has gone up a little bit due to snowmelt and the need to keep IP Reservoir at a level to keep up with the runoff and the ice melting. The forecast is for cooler temperatures, and rain through Sunday. Here is your latest fishing report:

Box Canyon:

The box access is still snow covered but the access is melting rapidly so walking in is still your only option. The current flows are 1150 CFS. Wading is still safe at this level where you can access the river. Nymphing is still the game down there right now. Pat’s Rubber Legs black or black/brown size 8 and 10, Zebra Midges in red, green, and brown size 16, Orange Head Mary size 16, Jakes Red Worm size 8. On those cloudy rainy days bring along a few Sparkle Flag BWO’s in size 16 and 18.

Harriman State Park:

CLOSED until June 15th

Warm River to Ashton:

The river has come up in this section, and the Warm River and Robinson Creek has made the river a little off color. Nymphing, Dry dropping, and Streamers are all doing well this past week. You want to fish the slower water and closer to the banks to be successful. In the afternoon you will find an abundance of caddis. Pat’s Rubber Legs black or black brown size 8 and 10, 3D Glass Red worm size 12, Duracell Jig size 16 and 18, Dark Knight 14 and 16, Rusty Trombone size 4, Mikes Woolhead Sculpin black size 4, Chubby Chernobyl gold size 6, EZ Caddis in tan or olive size 14 and 16, and Missing Link caddis in amber size 14 and 16.

Ashton to Saint Anthony:

This section of the river has also come up not only from discharge out the Ashton Dam, but also the Fall River making the river a little off color. In the morning it is nymphing, dry dropping, and streamers, also don’t forget to dead drift a leech pattern like the Balanced Leech size 10 it can be very effective this time of year. The afternoon Is Mother’s Day caddis, March Browns, and BWO’s on cloudy days. Pat’s Rubber Legs black or black/brown in size 6 and 8, Bullet Quill olive size 14, Duracell Jig size 14 and 16.
