Fishing Report

Mar 21, 2024 | Andy Jenkins Midge_Cluster.jpg

. We are enjoying early spring weather here in Eastern Idaho with the highs in 50’s. At the present time the only boat ramps that are open are Ora Bridge, Vernon, and the Fun Farm bridge. With this warm up in temps that should all change in the coming weeks.

Box Canyon

It’s a walk in or snow shoe in for gaining access into the Box. The flows out of IP Reservoir are 410 CFS so if you can get in there wading will be not be a problem. Small Pats rubber legs, Red and Brown Zebra midges in size 16 and 18, and Black Perdigon’s in size 16 and 18. A small sculpin pattern in a tan, black, and olive stripped slow can also be very effective this time a year.

Warm River to Ashton

Lamm_Brown_Snow.jpg

All the boat ramps in this section are still snow covered and the only access is by walk wading. Nymphing the slow water can be very effective this time a year. Pats rubber legs, Red and Brown Zebra midges in size 16 and 18, Electric Caddis in size 16 and 18, and Black and Green Perdigon’s in size 16 and 18. Have some small chubbys in purple and royal in size 8 and 10 and try a dry dropper rig which can be highly effective this time of year. If you see any rising fish have some Griffith Gnats in size 16 and 18.

The boat ramp at Ora Bridge, Vernon Bridge, Fun Farm are open. The roads in at Ora are snow covered but accessible to the ramp, and the road into Chester dam is open but the access to the ramps on either are still snowed in. If you don’t have a boat and are wading, please obey all the NO PARKING signs. Park in all designated public parking and obey all private property signs. With the great weather this area will be very popular, but there are many areas that can be accessed and we can all spread out and enjoy our day. Small rubber legs, Cocktail nymph size 16 and 18, Red and Brown Zebra midges in size 16 and 18, and Black Perdigon’s in size 16 and 18 will do the trick for you. Be on the look out for BWO’s they should be out here in the coming weeks, especially on cloudy days.
