Lets go fishing!
We have survived another Memorial Day weekend! I always take a minute to reflect this weekend and to remember all that have paid the ultimate price for this country and those family members that have passed on. I also remember that in some hell hole…
What a great time to be on the river! Spring is here and fish are looking up!
Spring weather has arrived. The weather has been a little tough but fishing has been amazing!
Fishing has really improved over this week. Keep an eye on the weather. If it’s nasty out, get on the water!
Spring is officially here in our little corner of Idaho. Temps are heating up and so is the fishing.
Winter is upon us! Snow pack in Island Park is at 134% of average and the forecast is calling for more.
Winter has arrived in the crater. We have a long way to go but as of today things are looking good for next year
The Snow has begun to fall and the blue wings are here!
It is a great time of the year to fish all of our area waters
We finally got some rain and even snow in the higher elevations, I can’t hardly wait to see what fall has in store for us! I think it’s going to be one to remember!
Hatches remain Solid on all of our area rivers. August fishing is been the best I have seen it in a few years. If you’re thinking about a trip on any of our area waters, I think this is the year.
August is upon on us. The fishing on all of our area waters remains solid
We are half way through July and the fishing on all of our area waters continues to get better.
All of the rivers and streams have come into shape providing some great dry fly opportunities.
July is here I have no idea what happened to June but what a summer it’s been!
It’s been a very interesting week on the Hank. Monsoon like rain and water fluctuation. Through it all some fish being caught.
We have a week until the Ranch opens up for the 2018 season. I think we are in for one heck of a year!
Plenty of water in the reservoirs and rain almost daily. 2018 is going to be one to remember.
The 2018 fishing season has officially kicked off. The salmon flies have started to arrive.
Trees are budding and there is green grass in the crater, I am going say with confidence that spring is here! It’s my favorite time of the year.
In my last couple of fishing reports I have told you spring is coming, looking out the window of the shop as I write this and watching the snow coming down, I am not saying it again! Island Park is currently in the middle of what I refer to as “third…
March is almost behind us and it seems that spring is slowly making its way to East Idaho. It’s a great time of the year to be in this neck of the woods and some of the best fishing of the year is right around the corner.
Well here comes mid-march and believe it or not things appear to be thawing a bit in the crater! It’s time to get out of the house and back on the water! I for one am ready!
March is right around the corner and as the cabin fever starts to set in I start looking toward the river! As winter starts to loosen its grip in our area, get out and take advantage of some great fishing opportunities.
Winter is slowly making its way into the crater. We have a long ways to go but so far precipitation is above average. Let’s all hope for another great winter!
It’s been a great fall. It’s not over yet! We are still running guide trips. Lots of smiling faces in the shop. Starting in November we’ll cut our fishing reports back to about once a month.
Fishing has been awesome. I can honestly say with confidence that you can pick any of our area waters and find great fishing. Don’t let the weather scare you. Some of our best fishing is when it’s raining or snowing.
Mid October is here and I am amazed how the fall fishing has been on all of area waters. I honestly don’t think it matters where you go. The hatches are consistent and good trout are rising. This time of the year rivals the best of May and June.
October is almost upon us. What an amazing time to be on all of our area waters. I think you can pick just about any river in the area and you’re going to find some great fishing.
What an amazing time to be on the Henry’s Fork and our area rivers. The fall colors are on the way and seeing the first early snow is always exciting. If you have ever wondered what fall is like on the Henry’s Fork, this is the year to find out.
I am happy to report that the rain and cooler weather has begun to move into our area! This is great news for fishing . We are half way through September and if this cooling trend continues we should have some amazing fishing .
Fishing continues to be solid on our area rivers. I feel like fall is on its way. Elk are bugling and a few trees are starting to turn. Look for September and October to be a couple of amazing months on the water!
The natural flow of all of the waters in our system are slightly above normal and water temperatures have stayed cool. These factors have resulted in exceptional fishing for this time of the season.
August fishing is holding up much better than most folks have anticipated. I think the fishing will hold up through the month and should just get better as we slide into September.
August has arrived. I think we have had an amazing season thus far and I for one can’t wait to see what the second half of the season has in store for us.
We are on the back end of July. I think the fishing in our area remains very good. It’s been a great summer so far and I think our fishing will remain solid through the rest of the summer!
Mid July is here and things are really shaping up. Fishing is about as good as it gets. I have been seeing lots of smiling faces in the shop! All of our area reservoirs are at 100% of capacity, a great problem to have in the middle of July!
We have gotten through the 4th of July. The fishing for the most part did not disappoint.
June is on its way out and as July approaches, things on the Henry’s Fork and surrounding waters are just improving. Some of our area waters will come into play in the next couple of weeks if not sooner.
The Henrys Fork continues to fish very well. Golden Stones, pmds and green drakes just to name a few. The lower river is seeing a lot of boat traffic but the good news is that we have some other options.
Our weather hit a bump in the road with snow in Island Park. This short-lived system will only help the fishing. This should be an epic week with PMDs, caddisflies, Green Drakes, Gray Drakes, Golden Stones……
June has been a great month on the Henry’s fork and it is only going to get better. We are expecting another great week. We are filling up fast so if you’re looking for a day of guided fishing on the river give us a call soon.
Salmonfly madness is upon us. The fishing has been very consistent and we have had some great days. We are expecting some great fishing this summer and I for one can’t wait for the ranch to open!
Well things have heated up to say the least. If you have not heard, the Salmonfly hatch is in full swing and the fishing has been great on the Henry’s Fork! We still have some space left on the books over the next couple of weeks so give us a call…
The 10-day weather forecast looks great. Look for Salmonflies this week.
If the first week of May is any indication of how the 2017 fishing season is going to be than we are in for a great summer!
Here we go! May is here and I for one am happy. I think spring in east Idaho is one of my favorite times of the year.
April has been a great month for East Idaho. We lost substantial snow pack in March and honestly things were not looking to good. April has more than made up for any snow pack lost in March. Things are looking up for the 2017 season. Mike Lawson’s…
April is upon us and winter has started to leave the Island Park area. In Last Chance the snow is going fast. Snow pack in the higher elevations is still very solid and I think we should have an amazing summer!
The Calendar says March 30th but looking out the window this morning it looks more like November 30th. The first part of March brought unseasonably warm weather to east Idaho and we lost snow pack. However things have turned around…
Warmer weather has come to East Idaho sooner than we would like. As a result we have some high water conditions to talk about. The good news is we have cooler weather forecast for this weekend and there’re still plenty of options.
Spring is on its way in for sure! While there is still plenty of snow in the Island Park area things down South have melted off for the most part and the fishing has really started to heat up.
March has come in like a loin for sure! Snow pack in Island Park has steadily increased through February into March. Currently we are at 115 percent of average snow pack.I have even heard whispers that we may see the fabled gray drakes this year.
Early spring fishing is heating up! We are enjoying a warm spell in eastern Idaho but looking at the long term forecast I don’t think winter is quite done with us. I am ok with that we need more snow and a cool wet spring. The fishing this past week…
The time has arrived to begin the 2017 season! Temps have come up to make a day on the water bearable. I would say about the only issue you will have is access to launch a drift boat.
Well here we go! 2017 is here and it time to kick off the year with an updated fishing report. As most of you know East Idaho has been having an amazing snow year. Most of our drainage’s are close to 100% of average snow pack with a few areas…
Winter is upon us but there is still some great fishing if you bundle up. The cloudy snowy days can produce great results.
Harriman State Park will close to fishing at the end of this month. There also plenty of options on the Lower Henry’s Fork, Teton, South Fork, Madison and more.
November has closed in fast. The fishing has remained very consistent. I would call this fall fishing excellent! Harriman will close at the end of this month so get up here and take advantage of some of the best dry fly fishing of the year!
We have seen it all this fall! Great fishing and lots of precipitation in the form of both snow and rain. It’s always amazing that more anglers don’t come to fish in the fall. Its incredible. The best of the best.
We are off to a great start with moisture for the upcoming winter! Three inches of rain and some great snow up higher. Things are looking up. Fishing has remained solid and I believe it will stay this way for a while.
Well fall has come in with a vengeance! Rain and wind down here and snow up higher. We have a long way to go but this is very encouraging. The fishing has been nothing short of amazing! This is the time of year to be here! It’s the time of year for…
Well here comes October. As we come to end I would like to say thank you to all of our customers that help support our shop and a thank to all of our hard working guides that make it happen every day on these great rivers that we have here.
Fall is officially here. It’s been a hot dry summer. With the arrival of the Autumnal Equinox last Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 8:21am MDT the clouds came, followed by rain with some of the most epic fishing of the year.
Well here we are in mid-September and I watched as some snow fell yesterday! It’s been a great season for us here at Henry’s Fork Anglers up to now but some of our best fishing is yet to come.
September is here and finally some cooler temps and also a little rain! I am hopeful that we see more moisture this week and the temps will stay on the cooler side. Come into the shop and take advantage of our end of the season inventory blow out!
Well here we are in September! I don’t have a lot of new fishing information this week. The fishing remains good and will just continue to get better.
Well here we are in the middle of August already. I can’t believe that my kids start school next week! The fishing in our area continues to be good and from here on out will just get better.
Well so far August has been amazing! We are seeing clouds in the sky and temps have cooled a bit. The hopper fishing has been amazing! School is about to start again and things in Island Park will start to slow down. It’s a great time of the year…
August is almost upon us, I am not sure what happened to May, June and July. The days are getting shorter and before you know it the snow will be flying again. We have had some amazing fishing this year and in my opinion the best is still ahead of…
The water has cleaned up on the Henry’s Fork. The Harriman Park stretch is back where it needs to be this time of year. Get your PMDs, spinners, Callibaetis, and did I say beetles? Yes beetles!
Well it continues to be a great summer here in Island Park.
The weather has been mild and the fishing continues to be outstanding!
The Fourth of July weekend is upon us! If I could sum up the fishing in the area for the summer, awesome is the word I would use. The hatches have been consistent and with the exception of a week or so of wind, the weather has also been nice.
Lots of wind and hot dry weather has made fishing challenging but the best is yet to come. My prediction is that it happen this week.
We’re into the start of the summer with some great options.
Memorial Day weekend is upon us! It’s an exciting time for me and I am looking forward to a busy summer! Special thanks to Devan Ence for sharing some of his great photos with us for this report.
The fishing in May has been amazing to say the least! Consistent hatches of caddis and March Browns have been productive just about everywhere on the Henry’s Fork. The salmonfly hatch has also started up strong on the Lower Henry’s Fork in spite
I am very excited to announce that spring has made it to Idaho! I love this time of the year! Take a drive through the Snake River Plain and you will smell wet fertile dirt, you will see new born calves playing in green fields.
We apologize for not providing a fishing report last week. Todd Lanning normally does our fishing report but he has been up to his eyeballs receiving inventory in our store for the coming season. This is the time of year when it’s very important…
As I sit here looking out the window guess what? It’s snowing again! This is great news if you were to ask me. My last fishing report I told you all that snow pack was 91% of average…....
Well it’s starting to feel like spring might be on its way! While today it’s snowing in Island Park I know it’s raining south of us and there is ground showing in Idaho Falls, Rigby and Rexburg. I would like to see a couple more feet of snow…
First off let me say sorry for the lack of updated fishing reports! It has been awhile. My excuse is, well I don’t really have one so I apologize and I will be posting more frequently in the future.
The end of 2015 is near and what an epic year we have had at Henrys Fork Anglers. The Fishing throughout the season was great considering less than perfect water conditions. As I watch the snow fly today and look at the snow pac levels I am encouraged…
Well November is here and winter is upon us! Temps have dropped and we have seen a couple of good snow storms. Pray for heavy snow this year, we need it! What a great year we have had at Henrys Fork Anglers! Lots of very happy smiling guest have come…
October is here and man what a great summer it has been! For me personally it was hard to tear myself away from the ranch. I can tell you that after spending so many seasons on the South Fork that never in my life have I had my ass kicked so many times…
Here we are in mid-September already! As I look out the window this morning and watch the rain pour down I wonder what has happened to summer! Morning temps have been in the mid-thirties, bull elk are bugling and the fish are eating. I love this time…
Summer is on its way out already! I can’t believe that it’s the last day of August. The fishing definetly got tough for a little bit. The combination of smoke and dry hot days slowed things down. The good news is that in my mind it’s on the upswing!…
Mid-August is quickly approaching and talk about some crazy weather! We have seen everything from Snow and hail to monsoon rain storms! I think if anything it’s helped the fishing.
It’s amazing how fast the summer is going by! Looking back thus far I think the fishing in the Ranch has been great. The big flush is over and the upper river flows have come back down to around 1000 cfs out of island park reservoir. The water…
It’s hard to believe it has been two weeks since our last fishing report. A lot can happen in two weeks. The flow from Island Park Dam increased from just over 1000 cfs to a peak of over 1600 cfs. Now it is back down to 1300 cfs. One benefit from…
My apologies for our dereliction of notice with regard to what has been happening in Henry’s Fork Country since my last fishing report over two weeks ago. Fishing has been so good we haven’t had time to write about it. Time really sails when…
This week the weather has changed very rapidly from cool, cloudy and wet with below normal temperatures to hit, dry and above normal temperatures. The result is a major change in stream flow dynamics. Until a few days ago the biggest complaint from…
For me the end of May and the start of June just doesn’t get much better. This year the challenge is where to fish. Even rivers that are normally out of sorts this time of year, like the South Fork of the Snake, have been fishing very well. Good…
Here we go again! The largest of all of the important aquatic insects of the Henry’s Fork, Salmonfly (Pteronarcys californica) started coming out full bore early this past week. About the only thing predictable about the Salmonfly hatch is it is…
Starting with this we’re going to take a little different approach to our fishing report. It is our objective to post an updated fishing report on a weekly basis throughout the summer season. We’ll move to bi-weekly in the fall and spring and less…
We started out with a very good snowpack in January and it has dwindled down to 70% and still dwindling. The spring has been warmer, drier and earlier than normal. Hopefully we can get some…
The cottonwoods are golden as I look out across my pasture at the Henry’s Fork above St. Anthony. Most of the leaves have already fallen up the Ashton Hill at Island Park. The coming weeks offer…
First off I want to apologize for not keeping our fishing report current. We’ll do better. We’re moving into a strong hot weather pattern which will undoubtedly change fishing conditions. Many of…
We have had some very good fishing the past couple of weeks. The weather has been beautiful, and some very nice fish have been caught. I will go through the details of our area below:
Upper…
The weather has been cold and wet for most of the month but the forecast for the upcoming week is favorable. There is a lot of snow in the high country so if the temperatures warm up you can expect…
You can really tell that it is spring time here on the Henry’s Fork the swallows have returned for the summer and the Baetis are in the air. Almost all of the snow on the lower river is gone and it…

Spring has arrived here on the Henry’s Fork. The snow is melting in Last Chance and the lower river is ice free and all boat ramps from the warm river to St.…
Winter has definitely come to Henry’s Fork Country. During the months of December and January it isn’t practical to post a current fishing report. That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of…
Here in Island Park the signs of fall are starting to turn to winter. The leaves have fallen off the trees and the snow has begun to fly coating the Caldera with a soft blanket of white. We are…
For the last week, the weather has turned in an instant, from Summer to Fall. In fact, with the Summer and Fall air mixing together, we had a tornado touch down near the Island Park reservior about…
It’s hard to believe that summer is almost gone. It was a warm one, that’s for sure but fishing held up…
Fishing has picked up in most areas since our last report of August 15th. The weather has moderated from the incessant heat experienced in July and early August. Look for fishing to continue to get…
It’s hard to believe that summer is on the wane. So far it has been a great season in spite of the fact that stream flow from the reservoirs has been erratic and high along with near record heat….
One of the most common questions during the last few weeks has been, “When will the stream flows go back down to normal?” Less than a week ago the flow through the Box Canyon peaked at almost 2000…
We’ve moved into mid-summer fishing conditions. The weather has been unusually warm and dry. The demand for irrigation has peaked on the Henry’s Fork raising flows below the Island Park Dam. Flows…
Fishing conditions have changed with the advent of above normal temperatures and changes in stream flows. We’ll miss the big aquatic insects like Salmonflies and Green Drakes. Stream flows are…
We just received the preliminary report from the Idaho Fish & Game Department with their population estimate for the Box Canyon. The trout numbers are simply astounding! There are 6200 trout per mile in the Box Canyon.
Spring has definately arrived here in Southeast Idaho. When I say that it means that we usually get a week of great weather in the 60's followed by another two weeks of unsettled weather including cold, wind, rain, and snow. With that said,…
A lot of stuff has happened since my last fishing report. Mostly I sat in my office with the high temperatures in the upper 30s, wishing I was fishing. In the old days cold weather never slowed me down.
We attended the International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4) on Tuesday night. If that didn’t get you amped up I don’t know what would.
I recently read that January was one of the coldest on record since 1949 in Fremont County. Parts of the Henrys Fork iced up. Fall River, a freestone stream, looked like an Alaskan glacier. My only…
Don't expect much to change over the next several months with regards to the fishing report. In fact, you really shouldn't call it a report at all due to the lack of anglers actually fishing and…

As of today we are seeing some cooler weather. We expect to see temperatures in the 50's the rest of the week. Unfortunately, it has not brought too many clouds yet. The cooler…

We are still seeing higher temperatures in the mid to high 70's range which has kept the hoppers and terrestrials alive, but we haven’t seen any good Mahogany Dun or Blue Wing…

This week we received some great news from the Henry’s Fork Foundation. A proposal from Pacificorp, the company that manages the Ashton Dam, planned to draw the reservoir down an additional 5 feet to complete their project to rebuild the…
This has been a great week. A number of good things happened.
The weather has been sunny and warm, and as a result the bright days have kicked on the terrestrial fishing throughout the area. Flies continue to hatch throughout the Last Chance area and the…
The moisture and cooler weather has been a welcome relief in recent days. The forecast is for the mild weather to continue during the coming week. This should help the fishing conditions…
The prolonged hot dry weather has slowed the fishing on the Henry’s Fork below Ashton. It is always tough when the lower river shuts down. It always produces some of the best fly fishing in the…
First off we offer our sincere apology that the fishing report has not been updated since June 3. Hopefully we can redeem ourselves with a glowing report now. There’s a lot of good stuff to report…
It’s that time of year again. As we get into the month of June, the best dry fly fishing is about to take place on the Henry’s Fork. The cold days are over and with great water flows, sunny days,...
One word pretty much summarizes the fishing report for the Henry’s Fork… Salmonflies! However……
As I'm writing this report there are snow flurries dancing through the air outside the fly shop, and I find myself thinking, “Man, I wish I was back in the Bahamas.” The past few weeks have been a…

Fishing over the course of the next few months will be largely dependent on the weather. The biggest change is that much of the lower river is off color due to field runoff from last week's warm…
Depending on the weather, fishing is going to start getting good…really good.
Feel free to call the shop for any recommendations if planning on hitting the river or just to talk fishing…we're…
Who knows what we'll have in store as far as weather, but hopefully we'll start to see a slowly increasing warming trend over the next two months. It is definitely time to start filling those fly…
